about

Relic is a song I wrote about being confronted with backwards-thinking people. Individuals who are so frightened of change and evolution that the whole idea of it angers them. It's not specific to an issue or person, just a general Dealing on folks who fear change.

lyrics

Lost in willful ignorance, embittered and angry at the world.
Your spirit rots within you, your hollowness devours your insides whole
You see all life with dead eyes.

Relic- a man whose time has passed.
Though he doesn't know it, he's one of the last.
Cynic- one of cancerous soul
Already dead inside, though he does not know

Trade your free will for your faith and your freedom to be safe
And your mind for rigid dogma and you call it virtue
When the world has changed and you're left out of place
And you don't know you've been betrayed by your own truth

O, blessed storm, scatter and fade into time,
Cleanse the lies, and drown all the ash with the tide

Lashing out with venomous hate, sinking deeper into self righteousness
What a blessed feeling, if only for a fleeting moment's dream
It would be to descend into madness

When your life comes to an end, will you comprehend
That which you lost and when, it's all laid to rest,
Will you accept? Or will you leave this life screaming?

When your life comes crashing to an end-
Will you have the will to understand?
When it's over, will you accept?
Or will you leave this life
Kicking and screaming and struggling to understand why?

We shall rejoice, now
That you hold no one in thrall
We will dance and celebrate
The birth of this new dawn
We shall rejoice, now
For no one hears your words
The lies have been cleansed
And are no longer heard

For the last of the relics you are
Left to vanish like a distant memory

For the last of the relics you are
Laid to rest and put out to sea
Forever your spirit will dwell
Among the smoldering embers of all history
