Wings Of The Blood Eagle

from The First Veil Of Snow by Frost Giant

/

about

This was the first Frost Giant song. I wrote this originally for Live Fast Die, a band I was drumming for. I wanted to incorporate some heavy, riff-laden music into the style we were doing, but shortly after, the band broke up. I decided to rework the middle section and voila, a song gave birth to a band. Lyrically song deals with the fear a warrior feels when going into battle. Lots of songs talk about bravery and courage, but everyone who fights has to overcome a fear. In this case, the fear is not with dying, necessarily, it's about fighting enemies you cannot kill with swords. What good is steel against the spirit world?

lyrics

All across the misty night
The air is thick with the smell of blood
The horses shiver in fright
A nervous hand fumbling for his sword
What good is steel against the spirit world?
From this haunted place, we shall not return

O, this cold wind brings death
On wings of the blood eagle
So this is how I reach my end?
Run through with fear of these shivering ghosts
Grasping at the last dying rays of hope?

Run for your lives, Wyrd has come
Flee before us
Oblivion awaits you,
Flee before us
Death on black wings, ravens cry
Die on our spears
Trampled to dust, hand of doom
Die before us!

There is no hope, all hope is lost
What good is steel against the spirit world?

From this haunted place
We shall not return.
